Department Profile

Department of Political Science is one of the significant department of Government Model College, Deithor , Karbi Anglong  which was established in the year 2022. The Department has been providing three B.A (CBCS) courses including Honors, Discipline Specific Courses, Generic Enhancement Courses, Skill Enhancement Course, and H.S first year and H.S Second Year courses.

Department Objective

Department of Political Science endeavours to provide value oriented education and create a healthy academic environment with an objective to generate interdisciplinary approach of learning.

Department Mission –

  1. To develop a conducive environment for teaching and learning in the field of Political Science with an objective to create excellence in the discipline.
  2. To generate critical understanding, innovative and creative ideas among the students.
  3. To enable them to develop potentialities for pursuing higher education.
  4. To encourage different research activities related to socio political issues among the students.
  5. To generate awareness among students about various rights, equalities, liberties, freedom, justice and different social issues so that it can help students to be a responsible citizen.
  6. To make the department a centre of excellence in the domain of Political Science in North East Region and in India.

Department Future Activities

Though the department is at its initial stage, but it has planned to develop certain activities in near future. Following are the future activities that the department aspires to undertake.

  • Department has planned to formulate different writing research based workshops primarily on the various subaltern issues such as on Gender, LGBTQ, Minorities, Informal Workers, Adivasis, Dalit and other marginalised community.
  • In order to make the student’s research more relevant for the community, department has the plan to make different community outreach programme and field trip with the students.
  • Department has also a plan to create particularly a forum in the name of ‘Kaziranga Studies’ to make a detail study on kaziranga and issues pertaining to it.
  • To make the learning more interactive, department has the vision to conduct regular seminars and presentations within the department and also with the departments of other universities of Northeast through ‘Students Meet’.
  • Regular Faculty and Students exchange programme are also planned with other colleges and universities.
  • Department has also planned to introduce different value added courses on issues such as land and labour, subaltern studies, environment and politics, gender studies.
  • A Research Journal in the field of Political Science is also planned.

To make reading and learning enjoyable regular book reading sessions, knowing society through visual medium, discussion on understanding social media and print media platforms are planned.
