Bonglong Terang Library and Information Science in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the College successfully organized an ICSSR Sponsored National Seminar from 3rd to 5th October, 2024. The three-day National Seminar on Oral Tradition, Culture and Folk Heritage of North East India and Beyond commenced with the inaugural ceremony on 3rd October, 2024. Following the inauguration of the seminar and the exhibition, the first plenary of the seminar was chaired Dr. Dharam Sing Teron on the theme “Oral Tradition, Culture and Folk Heritage of Karbi Anglong”. The panelists were Mr. Papu Ghosh, Ms. Mainu Teronpi, Dr. Tilak Hazarika, Padmashri Dhaneswar Engti and Mr Elwin Teron. On the second day of the seminar, the keynote address was delivered by renowned oral and public historian, Prof. Indira Chowdhury on “The Lesson of Memory and Story-telling within Cultures of Orality- Reflections of an Oral Historian”. The second plenary session on 4th October, 2024 was chaired by Prof. Indira Chowdhury with two panelists, Dr. Debashis Baruah and Dr. Soumitra Puzari. The session was themed “Oral Tradition and Folk Culture: Tools to Investigate the Past and Understand the Present.” There were six technical sessions on day two of the seminar where a total number of 27 papers were presented. The third day of the seminar had four technical sessions out of which three were student sessions. A total of 31 papers were presented in the sessions. Three students were awarded with the best paper presentation award. The seminar concluded with the valedictory session where the convenor, Dr. Nilakshi Sharma offered the vote of thanks.
