GB President’s Message

Deithor is a noteworthy landmass situated along the picturesque Deithor River, nestled at the foothills of the historic Deo-Pahar (Deo Hills). Positioned at the fringes of the Karbi Anglong district, Deithor serves as a cultural crossroads, blending the rich cultures of both Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts. In this distinctive location, Government Model College, Deithor, was established in 2020 as part of the Model Degree College scheme, which was originated in the academic year 2008-2009.The scheme was specifically designed for educationally disadvantaged districts across the country, where the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for higher education was below the national average of 19%. The primary objective is to provide top-notch higher education at both the Higher Secondary and Undergraduate levels, ensuring that the educational standards as per with the best institutions in the country.

Additionally, the scheme envisions the transformation of these model colleges into centres of excellence, particularly focusing on offering Postgraduate level courses in the future.

The main aim of this programme is to provide quality education in areas where educational access is limited. This includes making sure that the quality of education offered at Government Model College, Deithor, is on par with the best institutions in the country. Additionally, the initiative has a vision for these model colleges to become centres of excellence, particularly for Postgraduate level courses, in the future.

Guided by the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing holistic education and employability, Government Model College, Deithor, has been dedicated to fostering a setting of quality higher education in Deithor and its surrounding region since its establishment. Remaining steadfast on this path, the college is set to introduce six self-financed add-on courses in the upcoming academic session. These include Certificate Courses in Spoken English, Spoken Assamese, Spoken Karbi, Beautician, Music (Guitar), and Electrical Technician. To ascertain egalitarian development in education, the college has introduced a study centre of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU) in its campus. In addition to this, as a matter of pride for every Karbi People, the college named its library after the renowned Karbi legendary figure BonglongTerang. Signifying testament to the able leadership of the principal, the college has already achieved UGC 2(f) status in such a short span of time.

It is anticipated that Government Model College, Deithor, will live up to the standards set by the State Government. The diverse courses offered by the college present a valuable opportunity for prospective students, interested guardians, and the public in and around Deithor. It is encouraged that they make the most of this new and significant centre of learning.

Students enrolling in the college are expected to be the torchbearers of their generation, lighting new candles of knowledge and wisdom to dispel darkness.
